My brother was a Flight Engineer of a CH-47 Chinook Helicopter on the morning of 16 February 1973. Delivery of office supplies to An Loc had been completed around 10:45 am when his helicopter came under intense small arms fire. The CH47 was hit several times and started to burn. The pilot was able to land the helicopter but James was burned over 85% of his body with 2nd & 3rd degree burns. He was treated at the Third Field Hospital in Saigon, then evacuated the the US Army hospital at Camp Kue, Okinawa on 2-17-73. He died at 4:19am on 2-23-73. Three other crewmen were taken to the states for medical treatment and the pilot remained under medical care at the U.S. Army Hos- pital in Saigon. This was Jim's second tour of duty in Viet Nam. When he went back over after emergency leave, he knew he would not come back alive. He left behind 2 beautiful girls, one 9 months and the other 2 years old and his wife. Jim's CH47 did not have the orange zebra stripes that were symbols of the join peace keeping commission (in whose behalf he was flying).

My parents are elderly and wishing to hear from anyone who may have survived that day. Jim's daughters want to know more about their father's death. All we can tell them is that he was a hero and had the unfortunate recognition of being shot down after the peace treaty was signed. If any of you knew my brother either while he was in Viet Nam or stationed in the States, please contact me at BEVVY83@Hotmail.com. Thank you for caring and sharing & God bless each and every one of you!
