  86. Matt Maner River Division 591, Vam Co Dong River, South Vietnam, 1957, 1961 to 1969. My name is Matt Maner and I am seeking information about my Father, Howard Joseph Maner, who was killed on June 18, 1969 on the Vam Co Dong River during operation Big Muddy. Dad was in River Division 591, and his task force was 116,117. My Dad enlisted in the Navy in 1957 and again in 1961 and he stayed until his death in 1969. During his tenure he served on the USS Forrestal during Mediterranean Tour, and the USS Essex, USS Capricornium and USS Independence. He was born in Slater Missouri on December 21, 1938, but was living in Inkster Michigan in Wayne County when he went to serve. Dad's service number was 516-42-24. I was just a year old when I lost my dad, so all I have to go by are the papers the service gave me. Please contact me if you have any information about my dad.

  87. TEE Served as a squade leader in 3rd platoon in Nam from 11-10-70 to 1-24-71 looking for any marine buddies out there from my old outfit. My platoon Sgt. Bruce Faye was the best and tuffest man I ever met. We were on many operations together such as Arizona, L.Z. Ryder,Fue bye, Quand Tre Province, Qua Son to name a few. I remember humping most of the nite carrying this heavy raft so we could cross the river where we knew the N.V.A. were because recon had spotted them and we were on a search and destroy mission. No sooner 1st platoon got to the other side of the river we heard gun fire. We substain causality through our own fault. You see two young guys decided they were going to set up a claymore mind and didn,t tell the other guys in the squade, so after they had it set up they started walking back to the periminter and were killed by frienly fire, another booth-new guy in country-no longer did we have the advantage of surprize attack, because Charlie knew we were there. We lost several men that day one which I will never forget. To my fellow Marines out there Semper Fidalis, stay in touch, E-mail back if you can, if you would like to know more about war fill free to E-Mail me. Love, TEE
