  42. Cecelia Friedman I am a freshman at American University and I'm currently doing research for my America and Vietnam class concerning the Homecoming of the Veitnam Veteran. I've done several personal interviews both from veterans, their families, and others who just have stories to tell. My goal in this paper is to get a comprehensive view of the Homecoming from all sides. From what I've heard and researched thus far, I know coming back to the "World" for many caused pain, hurt, and desperation to be understood, for the people back home to somehow "get it." However, I've also heard of many Veterans "filing Vietnam" away and trying to survive in the world they came home to. I guess what I'm trying to say is that if you, or anyone, has any personal experiences that you'd like to share, or can recommend some sources, I'd be very much obliged. My email address is listed above. Thanks alot for your time and I really liked your page. Sincerely, Cecelia Friedman

  66. mk stickroth My husband, Richard W. Stickroth, Sr., is a Vietnam Vet. I have so much respect for him and all of you and what you endured over there. I was just a kid then, but wore a P.O.W. bracelet as my part. I don't know where he served. He was 30 years old. He said he and his men would shoot large lumps of grass floating down rivers. Every so often, the "grass" would be hiding ammo for the VC. He was also a drill sergeant at Ft. Polk, La. during the Vietnam War. He gets emotional when Memorial Day, Veterans Day, etc., programs come on TV, because he worries about the boys he trained that were sent to Vietnam- hoping that what he taught them helped them to survive. Fearing that what he failed to teach them caused their death. He did three tours in Vietnam. I think the first was with the army, and the other two were with the Seabees. Am wondering if anyone remembers him?

  77. mk Since my last posting, I found out more about where my husband, Richard W. Stickroth, Sr. was in Vietnam. In the Army, he was in the Military Assistance Command. Then he returned for two more tours in the Navy Seabees...MCB4. I am recovering from PTSD because of child abuse, and have come a long ways. Richard has been wonderful for me, understanding what's going on with flashbacks, etc. I guess we help each other out. What I've learned through it all? Don't ever give up on yourself. Ever.
