  1. Douglas R. Haney 5th Mech. Inf. Div, A-Co., LZ Sharon,(CombatMedic). Quang Tri, (Khe Sanh, DMZ, LZ Nancy, Ashau Valley), 9/1968 - 9/1969. Started out with the 1st Inf. Division as a medic working in DR. Delta, MASH Unit in Bien Cat, Iron Triangle from 9/68 until field transfer on 2/69. At that point, I was sent to 1/61st. 5th. Mech. Division as field medic. In the field, with B-Co. Traveled up/down coast to wonderful scenic vacation spots as Khe Sanh, Ho Chi Minh Trail, LZ Nancy where all of the excitement of NVA family gatherings and friendly ambush activities took place, and to the beautiful land of the lost at the DMZ and LZ Charlie, where anything that moved had all the appearance of a "bad day" attached to it. Not a very nice place to greet your new neighbors! Lost my two best friends from boot and AIT in Vietnam. Michael H. Flood, Toledo IL. (27W/L8), and John E. Lutze, Flint, MI (39W/L37). Lost a great human being, a true hero and leader whom I personally tried to save with every breath of my body, Capt. Marvin James Roberts, Baton Rouge, LA. (Ranger, Special Forces) (28W/L75). If anyone knows the whereabouts of the Captain's wife, and two daughters who were, I believe, ages 3 and 6 at the time of his death, please tell them I just recently remembered his name after a long 28 year loss of memory due to the catastrophic, devastating ordeal experienced. But, I am trying to locate his family members to let them know what a heroic person, leader, and friend he was, and to let them know that at the time of his death he thought only of them, and wanted more than anything in the world to come home to them. He was due to be sent back stateside in less than four months of taking temporary command of A-Co. I was the last person with him when he died, and I gave him his last rites. I have much more to share with his relatives. Thank you. "Doc" Haney, (916) 394-2455.
