  19. Kevin Roberson Doc, My uncle, Samuel "Sammy" Roberson, served with Co A 1/61st during the first quarter of 1970. He was killed on April 4, 1970 when his unit attempted to take a hill near the DMZ. After being wounded and subsequently sent to the rear, he volunteered to take ammo to the front. On his way up with the ammo, he was mortally wounded. I would like to hear from anyone that might have known or been friends with my uncle. I realize this may be hard to do since he was in country such a short time but if you could pass this on to others who may have known of him, I would be most appreciative. I only had two years to spend with him but at times it seems as if he is right here with us. Anytime I see a picture of him holding me as a baby or read a letter were he mentions me I can feel his presence. I would like to try and find a way to take my grandmother and my father (Sammy's oldest brother) to VietNam to the place where we lost him. If you know how this might be possible I would love to hear form you. Thanks for all you did and are continuing to do to help us see what it was like. God Bless You. 20. Phil US Army, A Company, 1/61st, Fifth Infantry Division. Hi Tommy and Doc,I thought I'd fill you in a a positive thing from this message you sent out.I was with him at the time of his death but don't remember him.I was in the CP group and he was in the 1st Plt.Anytime I did hang out with some of the guys from a Plt it was the third. If I remember right there was a guy from Long Island which isn't to far from where I lived. So we sorta had something in common I guess and from him I met and tried to stay with that Plt.But the thing here is I somehow got hold of Sams poncho liner after he was killed. How I don't remember but I used it as an extra one for the rest of my time in the war and brought it home with me.I know it was his because it still had his name written on it.I did try many years ago to locate the family but wasn't able to and just let things go.Then when I read your mail I went right upstairs and got it from the attic and came down and called kevin.I told him what I had and that I was going to send it to him.Whats so strange about this is how it all came about,I mean after 30 years a name comes on the computer screen and I know it.I called Kevin last night and he recivied it.He's going to bring it to his grandmother (Sams Mother) this week end.I had asked him for one thing as a favor, and that was to be sure to take a picture of her when they give it to her and send it to me.I still can't belive it,there must be something to this that I just don't understand. The one thing I do understand is that it may have taken 30 years but it did find it's way to where it belongs, with his family. Thanks for posting it,I'm sure we made a mother very happy. Phil
