Left the west coast (El Toro, MCAS) on December 31, 1968 and could not fly into San Francisco and ended up in Las Vagas - at Ceasars Palace fo all places. (We did see and meet with Sammy Davis, Jr. at the VAL at the airport. He spent a good bit of time with us and joked, etc. with us. He was a decent human being.)Spent about four hours there, at the casino, and then flew up to Oakland and took a bus to the local Air Force Base. Arrived at 8:00 pm on New Year's Eve and no one in the USAF expected us. Complete FUBAR. Eventually, took buses to San Francisco International Airport and spent 4.5 hours waiting for crew (drunk) of Flying Tigers to arrive. What a hell of a way to spent New Years!!!!
